Keys View
/Keys View is one of the most popular destinations in Joshua Tree National Park. Spectacular views from the lookout point spread out before and below you, as they should from a 5,000+ foot elevation.
Perched on the crest of the Little San Bernardino mountains, a panoramic view of the Coachella Valley lies before you. Things to look for: The Salton Sea, the Santa Rosa Mountains, San Jacinto Peak, San Gorgonio Mountain and of course, the San Andreas Fault. Rumor has it that on an exceptionally clear day, Signal Mountain in Mexico can be seen. Informational signs help you look in the right directions.
The air quality has been a bit murky on most of my visits, but this past February the air was fairly clear and the skies partly sunny as a storm slowly moved through the region. It was probably the best visibility I've experienced at Keys View.
The drive to Keys View from Park Boulevard only takes about 15 minutes, so it's definitely worth the time to head up the the edge of the world and take in the views.
